(breaking all the rules!)
Disdressed
Invited to 1st boyfriend’s, 2nd wedding.
Nice! But now it’s dress-buying I’m dreading.
My usual attire is jeans and shirt.
Once in a while, to church, I’ll wear a skirt.
Those hemlines hold me hostage from the start.
Too long just drags, too short--I look a tart.
To sleeve, or not to sleeve, the question sits--
Must hide the flabby flesh beneath my pits.
The fabric is a feature pondered long,
Cuz clingy stuff enhances all that’s wrong.
Each bump and roll's revealed, rather than hid.
I stick to stiff, of jersey I'm well rid.
Next, collar issues get me in the neck.
Too deep – we get E.T., too high – Star Trek.
Yet boobies bared don’t matter, mine are small--
Décolletage on moi’s no thrill at all.
Lately them that’s there are southward bound.
The cleavage that once was cannot be found
Without a push-up from the waist below,
Which every day, appears somewhat to grow.
So ladies if you’re shopping here’s my tip:
Don’t try to be a model or look hip.
The dress-designers haven’t us in mind.
Choose a smart suit and hide that big behind.

Clothes-shopping is fun?

20 of Kat's friends had this to say::
You are very modest Kat! I suggest you go for the tartish hemline. Small boobies are hot!
Ha ha, that mention of the hemlines, hard to know what is too short or too long. There is a fine line between looking slatternly and matronly when you get past a certain age and try to "frock up".
I enjoyed Disdressed (and like that title)! Also lol at you getting invited to your 1st boyfriend's 2nd wedding :D
This is so depressing in a very funny way. :-D
What to do? I hate shopping in the sections that I used to be able to stay away from. For me, all sleeves are 3/4, wrap dresses are great.
BTW, I adore paisley - have since I was a kid. Nice dress!
This poem made me smile in sympathy.
It seems a lot more involved for women to shop for clothes, than it is for men.
(Well, I guess it depends on the man!)
;)
Thanks GB, I have kind of, sort of exaggerated my faults (for comic effect) - I can get away with a fairly short hemline. The dress pictured, is the one I bought for the occasion.
Oh. You must find "Trinny" quite the hottie, I guess. (mine are bigger than her's).
Linda - I'll have to remember that "frock up" phrase - very good. You Aussie's seem to have such interesting colloquialisms.
Caroline - Welcome! I do enjoy your blog - loved the Survivor stuff.
Regarding the wedding: yes, and hubby and I are struggling with not saying his name in tandem with his first wife's. We've had to make up a little rhyme to keep it straight and avoid an embarrassing faux pas.
DD, Glad you found the humour. It is rather sad, isn't it, but I hope at least by laughing about it we can unite in our tragedy. Yet to come is the struggle to find shoes.
Kat
Shopping sure isn't the fun it used to be. Nowadays I'd rather sew.
Cameron - you're right! My husband is the pickiest shopper around. He can have an armful of clothes ready to go and then suddenly decide they're all wrong. I will often show him things for consideration and he vetoes almost everything. I have to admit though, when he does buy something it is just right. He is very undecided about things, whereas I am extremely decisive.
Mizmell - I wish I had persisted with home economics. Maybe today I would have the option of sewing. I just didn't have the patience, if I'm honest.
Kat, go out and buy a sexy dress. Show off those curves girlfriend! Its all about the womanly figure this season. Just ask Gok! xx
Dress shopping should be right up there with bathing suits for women!
I too am a writer, poet, painter, songwriter... I love all things creative.
Glad I found your site!

Hey Elise! That dress on the door is the one I bought. It breaks some rules - it's clingy, it's short(ish), but I love it and it looks quite nice. I'll post a pic when I wear it to the wedding on the 31st.
Madison - welcome! I'm always curious when someone new stops by and actually comments. I find some of my favourite blogs in the blogrolls of my favourite and familiar sites. How did you come to land here? I will add you to my links in the Writers group. I would be grateful should you choose to do the same.
Kat
really stylin- great dress-
I got the best postal card from Fenny today -I put it on fridge #8- do you have Floots on your poetry list ??
Hello Kat, I loved this poem. I also like the dress you have displayed on this post. I think you'll look very beautiful the night of the wedding. Have a wonderful time!
hehe - cute poem. so fun, too. And quite a cute dress :) Have fun at the wedding in your clingy dress!
I hate shopping for dress clothes. I always seem to wait until I'm in desperate need and that doesn't do much for my mood. ;)
Oh poetikat you look still amazing so it must not be too hard.
I always loved dressing up when I was young. My parents had a clothing shop so I practised a lot
Oh, Thanks girls - Marja, Jen, Cirellio, Sandy and Lydia. Nothing makes a girl feel special like finding the right dress. I have to admit, this one is kind of sexy. The neckline dips and it hugs underneath the boobs and it hangs very nicely too (not just on the hanger). I'll post a photo on the day so you judge for yourselves.
Kat
What a fun poem. You should post it in department store dressing rooms.
And to think that some people even add jewelery which is always too much coordinating for me.
Amen sister!
Once again I find myself lacking an ass, because I just laughed it off. Thank you very much!
