Do Something to Save Darfur
Destiny: Darfur
Troubled times surround us
In this world of love and hate
Where we’re born we don’t choose--
God determines every fate.
So, some exist in plenty
Stability and wealth
While others dwell in poverty,
Oppression and ill-health.
With this lack of balance
The correct thing it would seem
Is to try and even up the score,
Contribute and redeem.
How often do we think thus,
But fail each time to act?
Rarely do we go beyond
Intention, that’s a fact.
Once in a while we meet someone
Of strength -- one of so few
Undoubtedly, in them we see
The Light of Christ shines through.
So we have the fortune
Of being truly blessed
To see a great example
Of one who has witnessed.
Daily, we learn the tragedy,
Horrific they endure
In sprawling desert of Sudan
The area Darfur.
Of vastly complex nature,
The politics and such
And try we hard to contemplate
Yet, fathom it not much.
‘Til graced with humble presence
Of missionary priest
Who called to Order known to us,
Spent decade there, unceased.
He opens up this place he knows
So we can plainly see
There’s more than just despair and pain
In Darfur’s history.
Now his cause is evident
As journey forth he must,
Spreading news of hopefulness
For God has placed his trust
In this meek man proficient
In language pertinent
Calls him from another path
To greater continent.
Living with the peoples
Of vibrant garb and smile
This man has changed and deepened--
His Lord ‘longside each mile
Asked if he’ll go back there
To land of will and woe
He tilts his head so thoughtfully,
Responding, “I hope so.”

GReat post I also love Soaring Impulse. What is your published material in the past??
The world can be a very heartrending place. Darfur has been crisis for five years. It’s time for the misery and genocide to end.
I can't stop crying...cheers
Darfur is an indelible stain on the name of humanity. Thanks for your thoughts on this important human rights issue. As the Preamble to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights reminds us, “…recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world.”
Dave Donelson, author of Heart of Diamonds
Every year we have a day of remembrance for what others fought for - a better world. We pledge to never forget, but time after time we do. Sadly, in this world, there are places that, for the most part, nobody really care about. Darfur is such a place. With the hustle and bustle of all around us, it's easy to sympathize but then forget. In the end, the world just isn't set up to help those in need. Governments fail to act, we fail to demand it. Remember Darfur... Rwanda... Bosnia....that's only the past 20 years...
Why fight over oil?
Well said, PV. Why indeed?

Hi poetikat Baba has sent me here.
What an amazing poem. It is so important to raise awareness although
it is not enough. There is an apathy when people watch the news and many problems don't even reach us.
One of my blogging friends is involved in building up whole communities again who were struck by the Tsunami. That gives hope. So we must pray and hope that the light may shine for others as well.
I guess there supposed to be a video or something at the top of this poem, but nothing shows up.
I saw the video now It made a big impact on me. Thanks for showing.
Oh and Baba asked me to ask you about Post to Post
Hi Poetikat,
What an absolutely powerful, and sad poem on Darfur. You've done this subject justice and your poetry stands out as quality work in the blogging world. -Mike.
Thanks for posting this KAT!
It's a video I'll never forget!
