Here I go again!

Well, guess what? It looks like I'm going to be doing another reading a whole lot sooner than I expected. I got an e-mail the other day from a woman who is coordinating the "Hype on King" event this coming weekend here, in Kitchener. This is a 2 day festival featuring music, dance and an urban art market. A while back I posted an ad on kijiji's free advertising site "looking for an open mic". Meg, the organizer of the "Hype" saw the ad and also happened to see my blog-link to the festival in the "eXhibit B" post. She contacted me to invite me to participate in the weekend's activities.
This time, I'll be on a stage, performing with a mic and p.a. system and I'll have a whole 30 minutes to fill. Wow! I'll be bridging the gap between music acts and I think it will be a great experience.

I'm looking at performing my lighter verse - the comic and confessional poems that many of you have said you enjoy. I want to keep an audience captivated, not bore them with serious, heavy stuff. So, if you have any suggestions about what I should treat my open-air audience to, I'd be happy to have your input once more.

Wow Kat! I am so excited for you! My favorite poem is the one about the bitter tea party - it's witty, personal and people can relate to it - i think an audience would love it.

Best wishes,
Kalianne

Kat! Congratulations on your next reading date! How cool is that. When I do a reading I take along my favorites, usually a few more than I will have time to read. As other's read I kind of get an idea of what the audience is reacting to and shuffle my poetry pages acccordingly. If you memorize at least a few of them it's even better. Good luck!
