OSI: “Inner Voice”

Confessions of an

Inner Voice

That inner

   voice

whispers

   incessantly,

persistent

   with

the plagues

   of insecurity.

Crouched,

   it lies in wait

                           to spring,

unchecked--

   snarling,

lingering  words

   ripping to

s h r e d s

   any shred

of confidence.

   (It doesn’t matter

what you write,

   it will never!

be enough

   to satisfy

its appetite.)

I guess it is WHAT that inner voice SAYS that is the key...in this case it sounds vicious and unsettling!
Once the inner voice confesses shouldn't their be relief?

The crouching Leopard of insecurity never changes it's spots ,does it KaT? But then it keeps you on your toes too!

Oh, that inner voice - I thought it was only mine, and now I find it is a fickle fellow, pouncing around with abandon! I'm so sorry it came your way...no need for it there...

i wish for no gentle epitaph

Damn, girl! You've been peeking inside my head, haven't you?

Voracious, yes. I guess that's part of being a muse. They must be skinny, hyper beings.

I enjoyed this poem.

Ah, it is nice to know that I am not the only one with the inner voice.;))
Hope your Sunday is lovely Kat.;))

I like the poem, Kat, but most importantly-- take it easy & get feeling better!

Oh how true, Kat! If my inner voice ever shuts up, I'll finally be able to get some sleep, HA!

I love how sinister you made the inner voice sound in this poem...very clever take!

Tormented by your muse. I guess that's better than not being able to find her! ;^)

Hope you're having a relaxing, torment free day!!

oh, this is great! those inner voices prey upon our moments of weakness...several voices speaking in my head right now...lol.

The only rest from that inner voice, is sleep.. perchance to dream..the human condition!! But writing helps...

Kat, Sorry about the sciatica.

A trip to the chiropractor is in order. Passion flower (which is beastly hard to find these days) soothes the nervous system too. Good luck. Get well soon.

Perhaps now it's been written about, it'll "put a sock in it"!

Good poem.

I like the style of this poem! Inner voice; one needs to listen to it and trust it. I reckon, it is the conscience voicing itself. Nicely done! Keep writing!!!

Good picture of the negative side of inner voice. I've had this visitor turn up in a dream or two.

Hmm my inner voice is trying to convince me to go into work late this cold Monday morning! Sorry to hear you aren't well Kat, take it easy now.

Isabel said...

Your poetic voice definitely tames the Leopard...if it doesn't, it SHOULD :)
Use the insecurity to propel your creativity, as far as I can witness you have done a great job with that leopard of yours.
Sorry to hear that you are having sciatica problems. I do know WELL what that is, as I suffer from it several times a year. Be WELL!

That inner voice may be also TRUTH wanting to be heard - CONFRONT calling its challenge - it serves and calls the SELF to awaken ...

Do take care - quietude and well being sent your way...

I remember reading about this inner voice in Susan Jeffers books, where she calls it the Chatterbox.

You just have to ignore it and stick your neck out for your dreams anyway!

Michelle Johnson said...

Yes, your inner voice can be loud, persistent but it can also take you on a steer one to a better path at times. Well written. Hope all is well.

I'm so sorry to hear that you're suffering! Wish I could be there to do a little therapeutic bodywork for you. Can you see an osteopath?

Oh. I bet everyone is giving you advice. Never mind.

Thanks for the poem and I hope you're soon feeling much better!

Hope you get some relief real soon.

That certain inner voice doesn't know what she is talking about.

Wild!!! I love the picture you chose to accompany your words. =)

I am sure it can feel this way.
Powerful poem.

What if those voices where like monkeys and you told the monkeys they could stay if they wanted but they'd have to be still while you do your work. One by one, they might just settle down and watch what you're doing, amazed and intrigued by your creativity.

Sounds crazy, but it's an image that has worked for me when I've tried to settle down the inner distractions when I try to meditate.

Fabulous poem. Like naming the scary thing that goes away when named.

Those sleek carnivorous inner voices. Padding soundlessly the lush growth. I wonder if they know how wisely they have chosen.

Thank you so much for your visit

Oh, yeah! You have written the poem we all feel. Insecurity is just waiting to pounce! Awesome words, Kat. I enjoyed it very much.

Excellent poem and so true (at least in my case). Our inner voice can be so LOUD and mean at times, can't it?
